Jens Ingvar Fjortoft

Jens was born on July 10, 1963 and passed away unexpectedly while working in the South Pacific, Dec. 2, 2018.

Jens was a 1981 graduate of Ingraham High School and spent the following 23 years working in the Bering Sea, fishing with his father and brothers. He went on to obtain his U.S. Coast Guard Marine Officer license/1600 gross registered ton, for his job as captain with Ocean Global, for the last 10 years. In summer time, he enjoyed his salmon business in Cordova. He was a long-time member of the Elks, Sons of Norway and the Holmes Harbor Rod & Gun Club.

Jens is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Denise, their daughter Annika and grandchildren Micah and Anya. He also leaves behind his mother, Anita, sister Michelle (Jeff), twin brother Per (Jane), brother Jarl (Andrea), mother-in-law Jenny, brother-in-law Glenn (Carol), sister-in-law Janelle (George) and sister-in-law Jenine (Nestor), along with many nieces, nephews, family in both Norway and Sweden and numerous friends from his many travels in life. He was preceded in death by his father, Kjell.

Spending much of his last 30 years at the family Whidbey Island home inspired Jens to build his last home there, often referring to it as “his paradise”. He was passionate about fishing, hunting, hosting many family and friends throughout the years and his two grandchildren, whom meant so much to him. Jens had a larger than life personality, was generous beyond his means and loving to no end. He will be forever in our hearts. “Takk for alt”

A celebration of life is planned for Dec. 16, from 1pm – 5pm, at the Ballard Elks. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Seattle Fishermen’s Memorial, PO Box 17356, Seattle, WA 98107.
