Bolshoi Ballet invites Susan Adams to summer intensive

A 14-year-old Alaska Native dancer at the Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy has been invited to join the Bolshoi Ballet’s Connecticut or New York Summer Ballet Intensive for serious dancers with world-class talent.

Susan Adams, a student at Dimond High School in Anchorage was noticed by the Bolshoi while competing at semi-finals of the Youth America Grand Prix competition in San Francisco, the world’s largest global network of dance.

“Susan brings to classical ballet an added talent as well,” said her father, Marvin Adams. “To my knowledge, she is one of the first Alaska Natives to achieve this level of recognition by the Bolshoi.”

The young dancer said she is anxious to get started with the summer intensive with the Bolshoi, but hopes she will still be able to participate in this summer’s intensive at ACBA.

The Anchorage dance school was founded in 1997 to preserve the art of classical dance while providing professional instruction for children as young as 18 months, plus classes for individuals of all ages. Graduates of ACBA’s preprofessional programs have danced with renowned companies including the Sacramento Ballet, the Houston Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, The Juiliard School, Dance Theatre of Harlem and internationally.
