Lady Wolverines top Tok, stumble in Valdez

Cordova’s Lady Wolverines topped Tok in a make-up conference game at Tok on Feb. 13, but then lost all three games in the highly competitive Valdez Valentine’s Tournament on Feb. 14-16.

Cordova had three players in double digits in the tight 52-48 win over Tok. Freshman Cali Sjostedt led the scoring with 13, while seniors Abby Bourgeois and Jieller Tabara each added 10.

The Valdez tournament included two 4A schools, and four 3A schools, all proving to be too much for 2A CHS. Cordova fell to 3A Valdez 50-37 in the opening round on Feb. 14, were over-whelmed by 3A Kotzebue 58-28 on Feb. 15, and then lost to 4A North Pole 54-39 in the battle for 7th place on the morning of Saturday, Feb. 16.

Barrow topped Kodiak 61-50 in the championship game. Glennallen received the Girls Sportsmanship Award, and Alanna Conwell of Kotzebue was named MVP. Cordova’s Abby Bourgeois was selected to the 10-member All-Tournament squad.
