Stevens: Comment now on proposed state budget

Editor’s note: Sen. Gary Stevens, R-Kodiak, asks his constituents to respond to a single question on the proposed state budget by Monday, March 4 at the latest.

Dear friends and neighbors,

In keeping with his campaign promises, the governor’s Fiscal Year 2020 budget would match state spending with revenues, use no savings, impose no new taxes, and guarantee a $3,000 PFD this year. This budget would affect virtually all state agencies, lead to decreased state services, reduce funding for K-12 education and the University of Alaska, and potentially eliminate the Alaska Marine Highway System.

Already, several constituents have expressed deep concerns over the budget next year, with many also stating they do not want their $3,000 PFD at the expense of other state programs. What do you think? If you have a moment, please let me know your thoughts by taking the one-question survey at:
