Fire contained at False Pass processing plant

A weekend fire at the False Pass seafood processing facility owned by Trident Seafoods was confined to a small area of the plant, with some smoke and water damage, but no reported injuries, the company said April 15.

The fire of undetermined cause started at about 3 p.m. on April 13 on the second floor of the plant, mainly in the computer server area, stockroom and parts storage area, Trident officials said. None of the plant’s primary mechanical systems were damaged and the incident is not anticipated to have any impact on processing capabilities in the upcoming harvest season.

Further damage to the plant was avoided by the swift, coordinated response of local fire crews, plant personnel, several on-site contractors and community members, to whom Trident extended their thanks.

The incident is under investigation.
