Free electronics recycling event

The Native Village of Eyak, Alaska Marine Lines and the city of Cordova will host a free electronics recycling event from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 22-29. Bring unwanted electronics to the city lot on Harbor Loop Road, next to the aluminum and cardboards recycling. Acceptable items include items that plug into something or take a battery such as televisions, computers, monitors, printers, digital camera, stereos, A/V equipment, cell phones, telephones, wall chargers, microwaves, speakers, vacuum cleaners (emptied), VCR’s, and DVD and CD players. Not accepting dishwashers, washing machine/dryer, refrigerators, freezers, exit signs, PCB ballasts and smoke detectors. For more information, call NVE at 907-424-7738.

Local Yarn Shop Day

PWSSC anniversary reception

Join the Prince William Sound Science Center for their 30th anniversary reception from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 26. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., enjoy a social hour with staff and board members, intertidal-critter touch tank, appetizers, cake and beverages. Remarks from PWSSC President Katrina Hoffman will be at 5:30 p.m.

Community bonfire

Celebrate Earth Day/Arbor Day by joining a bonfire and spring cleanup from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 26 at the newly remodeled One-Eyed Pond Recreation Site (18.2 mile of the Copper River Highway) in the Chugach National Forest. Compete to win prizes for trash collected. Learn about the site from subject matter expert Ken Hodges. Campfire and marshmallows provided, rain or shine.

Wild Food Feast and Film Festival

The Copper River Watershed Project’s Copper Basin Wild Food Feast will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at the Pioneer Igloo. The potluck, made from local wild ingredients, is also a cook-off. Alaska-themed movies will be shown as well as a presentation of the Watershed Hero Award.

Movie night

Cordova Arts & Pageants presents the movie “Vice” at 7 p.m. Friday, April 26 at North Star Theatre.

Health Fair

The Cordova Health Fair will be from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at the Cordova Jr./Sr. High School.

Annual Range Cleanup

Meet at the Cordova Trap and Gun Clubhouse out Sheridan Glacier Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for spring cleaning Saturday, April 27. Bring gloves, rakes, and shovels if you have them. Free food, beverages and a round of skeet/trap to follow for volunteers.

Circle of Hope ceremony

A Circle of Hope ceremony will take place before the 2X2 Cancer Walk at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27 in the media room at the Cordova Jr./Sr. High School.

2X2 Cancer Walk

The 17th annual 2X2 Cancer Walk will start at 12 p.m. Saturday, April 27. Meet at the entrance of the Cordova High School.

Head shaving event

In support of the 2X2 Cancer Walk, a head shaving event by the Cordova EMS and Fire Department will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at the fire hall. Registration costs $5 per adult or $10 per family. Additional donations will be accepted at their booth at the Cordova Health Fair at the high school from 8 a.m. to noon.

Pre prom party

All teens are welcome to attend a pre prom party Saturday, April 27 at the Cordova Family Resource Center. The Cordova Jr./Sr. High School prom will be at 9 p.m.

Spring Ham Shoot

Meet at the Cordova Trap and Gun Clubhouse at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, April 28 for early registration. Games, food, and prizes throughout the day.

The Rice Brothers

Hosted by the Cordova Arts & Pageants, The Rice Brothers, Johnny and Chris, who play the cello and piano will be coming to Cordova for a concert Sunday, April 28 at North Star Theatre. They have performed extensively nationwide, including their 2014 Carnegie Hall debut, and have won gold medals at an international Chopin piano competition. They feature a blend of classical, Gospel, jazz, ragtime and Boogie Woogie.

Harbor Cleanup Day

The Native Village of Eyak is hosting Harbor Cleanup Day from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at the Fisherman’s Memorial.

Used book sale

The Hospital Auxiliary will be hosting a used book sale between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. until May 23 in the basement of the hospital. Hardbacks are $1; paperbacks 50 cents. There are also puzzles and DVDs for sale by donation. Proceeds will go to the Hospital Auxiliary.

Moms, Pops and Tots!

A play group for children from infants to 4 years old is open from 10 a.m. to noon Mondays at the Masonic Lodge. The group focuses on exploring developmental issues and building on each child’s strengths through large-motor and small-motor skills play, pretend play and sensory play. Gospel sing-along

Join members of the St. George Episcopal Church on Tuesdays from 4-5 p.m. at the Cordova Community Medical Center for their Tuesday gospel sing-along, started in honor of Frances Mallory, and led by Christina Vican and Rev. A men’s Bible study, led by Matt Rush, will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Red Dragon.

Knit & Lit Book Club

Bring your knitting and join the Knit & Lit Book Club at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 at the fireplace in the Cordova Public Library. The meetings are the last Tuesdays of every month. This month’s books are “The Immortalists” by Chloe Benjamin and “The Book of Dust” by Philip Pullman. Little Ones at Storytime

Little Ones at Storytime, with youth services librarian Anna Hernandez, is 10:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays in the Cordova Public Library. Join Anna for stories, songs, and finger plays, geared toward preschool ages.

Teen Art

Teen Art with Paula Payne will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays in the Education Room at the Cordova Center.

Open studio life drawing

An open studio life drawing class Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m., began Jan. 30 at the Cordova Center education room. A model fee donation of $5-10 is suggested and drop-ins are welcome. For more information call Paula Payne at 907-424-6667.

After School Art

After School Art with Debbie Carlson will be held 3-4 p.m. Fridays in the Education Room at the Cordova Center. This program is geared towards grades 1-4.

Patch the Pirate Kids Club

Patch the Pirate Kids Club will be held 3-5 p.m. Fridays at the MorningStar Independent Baptist Church, at their new location at the old troopers building, for children grades first through sixth.

AC gift card distribution

The Salvation Army distributes AC gift cards the third Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to noon at the AC store for February, March and April. The gift cards are $25 each.
