Former NEA manager sentenced to federal prison

A former manager for Naknek Electric Association has been sentenced to 34 months in federal prison for embezzlement of $510,181 from the utility.

Donna Vukich, 60, of Naknek was sentenced on May 16 in Anchorage by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Burgess, with that sentence to be followed by three years of supervised release.

Vukich pleaded guilty in January to theft concerning a program receiving federal funds and filing a false tax return. She has since repaid the entire amount to NEA.

According to court documents Vukich was the general manager of NEA from January 2011 to December 2015, and her position included possession of a company-owned credit account to make business purchases for the association, but she used the company credit card for her unauthorized personal expenses, including a cruise and visit to a resort.
