Law & Order: May 10-23

The following incidents were reported to the Cordova Police Department between 5-10-19 thru 5-23-19. Any charges reported in these press releases are merely accusations and the defendant and/or defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.           

MAY 10, Friday: 

2:57 p.m. A fire department official was spotted by a pedestrian and made aware of a large fuel spill. The fire department officer responded to the scene of the reported spill. 7:16 p.m.  William K. Markowitz, 27, of Cordova, was arrested after being spotted by an officer entering a bar, which was a violation of his conditions of release.  

MAY 11, Saturday:

12:53 a.m. Caller requested an ambulance to transport him to the hospital. The ambulance responded to the residence and provided transport for the patient. 1:31 a.m. Caller reported a party at their neighbor’s house that was extremely loud. An officer responded to the reported residence and found no noise coming from the house.

MAY 12, Sunday:

11:48 p.m. Caller reported a disturbance occurring in front of his house. An officer responded to the scene. Upon interviewing the neighbors, the officer determined that the issue was an ongoing dispute between neighbors. 2:05 p.m. A caller reported a motor vehicle accident. An officer and ambulance responded to the scene.

MAY 13, Monday:

11:14 a.m. Caller reported they had found drugs on a beach. An officer responded and took the drugs into evidence.

MAY 14, Tuesday:

4 p.m. Teresa Barnes, 42, of Cordova, was taken in for a Failure to Appear warrant.

MAY 15, Wednesday:

9 a.m. An individual came to the station to report a dog attack. An officer is currently investigating this incident. 5:17 p.m. Caller reported a dog roaming their neighborhood.

MAY 16, Thursday:

10:55 a.m. An officer arrested Michael Radecker, 57, of Valdez, for failure to complete court ordered community service. 2:52 p.m. An officer arrested Teresa Barnes, 42, of Cordova, for trespassing. 3:06 p.m. A caller reported an intoxicated pedestrian on First Street. An officer responded, and a third party transported the induvial to their residence. 6:20 p.m. Caller reported a dog had ran at them and jumped on them while they were riding their bike. An officer responded to the scene and issued a citation to the animal’s owner.

MAY 17, Friday:

2:24 p.m. Caller reported a motor vehicle accident. An officer responded to the scene of the accident.

MAY 18, Saturday:

3:39 a.m. Caller reported they had been bitten by a dog.  An officer responded to the scene and cited the dog’s owner.

MAY 19, Sunday:

6:47 a.m. Caller requested an ambulance for an individual. The ambulance responded to the scene and transported the patient to the hospital.

MAY 20, Monday:

11:23 a.m. Caller requested an ambulance for an individual. The ambulance responded to the scene and transported the patient to the hospital. 5:03 p.m. An officer arrested Jose Alvarado, 44, of Ketchikan, for violating his conditions of release. 9:18 p.m. Caller requested a welfare check on a friend. An officer responded to the residence and found everything to be OK.

MAY 21, Tuesday:

2:07 a.m. Caller reported they had been involved in a plane crash. Dispatch notified the USCG and the Alaska State Troopers who took over search and rescue efforts.

MAY 22, Wednesday:

01:20 a.m. An officer conducted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle. During the course of the stop, the driver, Stephan Reutov, age 20 of Oregon, was arrested for DUI.

MAY 23, Thursday:

5:23 a.m. Caller reported a loose dog barking at people near the high school.  An officer responded to the area but was unable to locate the animal.

DMV HOURS: From 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday unless otherwise posted. DMV has moved to 602 Railroad Ave. Payments now accepted for dog licenses, ATV/snow machine registrations and citations.
