Sheridan Lake Trail within Chugach National Forest will be closed temporarily to the public to allow for trail reconstruction efforts, federal forest service officials announced this week.

The closure had been expected to run for approximately one week, likely beginning June 17, according to the Cordova Ranger District.

Closure and reopening dates may vary slightly depending on variations in the construction schedule. During the closure, construction signage will be maintained at the trailhead by the contractor. Hikers are urged to heed all warnings and restrictions associated with the project. Construction activities will involve heavy equipment that will not allow the safe accommodation of pedestrian traffic.

Reconstruction is deemed necessary to provide safe use of the public trail easement across the section of trail submerged by the glacial lake.
