Transportation Committee hearing

The Alaska House Transportation Committee will hear comments from the public about the proposed Alaska Marine Highway winter schedule, at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, July 27 at the Cordova Center. If you use the ferry system for shipping for your business, school trips, travel, groceries, daily essentials or medical needs, you will have the opportunity to give feedback of how the new schedule would impact you personally.

AMHS Public Comment Period

The public review process for the Alaska Marine Highway System winter 2019/2020 scheduling cycle is open for public comment until Friday, July 26. A public teleconference will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 29 for Southeast schedules, and at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 29 for Southwest and Southcentral schedules at the AMHS Ketchikan central office. Eyak Lake Clean-up Day

The Copper River Watershed Project is seeking volunteers to help clean up Eyak Lake. Eyak Lake Clean-up Day will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 27 at Mavis Island. To help reach more area, volunteers should bring rainboots or chest waders, a kayak or canoe if able. Lunch and snacks will be provided, and volunteers will receive a CRWP t-shirt. Volleyball Clinic

All-American and All-Big Ten award recipient Steph Chapek is coming to Cordova to host a volleyball clinic in collaboration with Cordova High School coach Janelle Greenwood and Junior High School coach Elizabeth Collins. The clinic is open to anyone in grades 6 through 12 and will take place from August 6 through August 9 at the Cordova Jr/Sr High School. Out of town guests are welcome to participate. Free Business Classes

Ilanka Cultural Center is offering free summer business classes. Classes are taken online, from your own computer and at your own pace. Tot Time

The Bidarki Rec Center opens the upstairs gym for little ones 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Toys, mats and other items are provided so tots and their caregivers can enjoy some free, inside play-time, rain or shine. There is no fee to attend.

Summer Food Service Program

Free healthy meals for kids 18 and younger are provided weekdays through August 9 at the following times and locations: Mt. Eccles Elementary School and Children’s Pallas provide breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Bidarki Rec Center and the Cordova Family Resource Center provide lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A hot meal option is available at Mt. Eccles Elementary School only and all other locations offer cold meals. All meals must be consumed on site.

Gospel sing-along

Join members of St. George’s Episcopal Church on Tuesdays from 4-5 p.m. at the Cordova Community Medical Center for a gospel sing-along, started in honor of Frances Mallory, and led by Christina Vican and Rev. Belle Mickelson. Anyone who wants to sing or play gospel songs is welcome to join to bring smiles to the long-term residents and hospital staff. For more information contact Belle at 907-424-5143.

Men’s Bible study

A men’s Bible study, led by Matt Rush, will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Red Dragon.

Knit & Lit Book Club

Bring your knitting and join the Knit & Lit Book Club at 7 p.m. at the fireplacein the Cordova Public Library, the last Tuesday of every month.

Ilanka community wellness & recovery support circle

A wellness and recovery support circle will meet on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ilanka Wellness Center located at the old DMV office across from St. George’s Episcopal Church. Celebrate Recovery
