Injured fisherman airlifted to Cordova

An injured man aboard the fishing vessel F/V Lady Kay was medically evacuated by the Coast Guard on Thursday, Aug. 15 south of Knowles Head in Prince William Sound and transported to emergency medical services in Cordova.

Coast Guard officials said the 60-year-old man, identified only as the vessel’s master, was reported to be stable upon transfer.

Watchstanders at the Sector Anchorage command center were notified that the man had sustained injuries and required assistance. After consulting with a Coast Guard duty flight surgeon, a medevac was recommended and a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Air Station Kodiak hoisted the man from the 52-foot fishing vessel.

The Jayhawk crew was diverted from a nearby training mission for the medevac. Weather on scene at the time was six mph winds and two-foot seas.
