Law & Order: Aug. 2-15

The following incidents were reported to the Cordova Police Department between 8-2-19 through 8-15-19. Any charges reported in these press releases are merely accusations and the defendant and/or defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

AUGUST 2, Friday:

8:10 a.m. Caller reported they had found a hat, bag and other personal belongings in their courtyard of their business. They were concerned because the courtyard is a secured area with locked gates. An officer is investigating. 8:32 a.m. Caller reported her dog had been attacked by another person’s dog after they lost control of the leash. The individual who lost control left the area after the attack. An officer investigated and the situation was settled civilly. 1:13 p.m. CCMC requested an ambulance for a patient transport to the airport. An ambulance responded to the hospital and provided transport.

AUGUST 3, Saturday:

11:15 a.m. Caller reported a suspicious driver on the highway. Officer responded giving the driver of the vehicle a citation. 3:23 p.m. Caller requested assistance at their residence giving no more info. Officer responded separating all parties.    

AUGUST 4, Sunday:

12:37 a.m. Caller requested an ambulance for a woman unconscious on the ground outside. Ambulance responded transporting the patient to CCMC.

AUGUST 5, Monday:

Nothing to report.

AUGUST 6, Tuesday:

6:17 p.m. Caller reported she can hear people yelling for help on the lake and saw some people tipped over and they are sitting in the lake. Forest Service Officer assisted getting the people back to shore safe. 8:23 p.m. Caller reported items went missing from her residence. Officer responded investigating the situation.    

AUGUST 7, Wednesday:

Nothing to report.

AUGUST 8, Thursday:

Nothing to report. 

AUGUST 9, Friday:

2:40 a.m. Caller requested an officer for an assault that had happened. Officer responded and found that the victim was assaulted by multiple subjects. This incident still under investigation.

1:28 p.m. Dispatch received multiple reports stating they had seen the children that were reported missing from Seward. Officers and Alaska State Troopers later found the children and the suspect was arrested for Custodial Interference and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance.

AUGUST 10, Saturday:

2:20 p.m. Individual came to the station and reported that his roommate had choked him. Officer spoke with both parties and they were relocated to different rooms. 5:16 p.m. Caller reported that he was assaulted. Officer responded and Bernie Guerzon, 36, of California, was arrested for DV assault.

AUGUST 11, Sunday:

12:00 p.m. Officer found cellphone and other items lying outside of station. Items were taken in and placed into safekeeping. 12:00 p.m. Individual brought in a credit card found near a local business. 5:22 p.m. Caller reported four subjects walking behind a property that wasn’t theirs. Complainant said he ran out to confront the subjects, but they had run off into the tree line after breaking a window. Officers responded but could not locate any suspects.

AUGUST 12, Monday:

3:04 p.m. Caller reported an individual attempted to steal a pair of headphones. Caller said the suspect made it out of the business with the items, but employee had followed him and took back the stolen property. Officer responded and subject was trespassed from the property.

AUGUST 13, Tuesday:

11:53 a.m. Caller reported seeing a hit and run. Officer responded and investigated the report. 3:11 p.m. Caller reported that an individual had just stolen products from a local business. An officer responded and case is still under investigation.

AUGUST 14, Wednesday:

Nothing to report.

AUGUST 15, Thursday:

2:02 a.m. Caller requested a welfare check for their friend who had posted suicidal messages on social media. Caller said they were on a fishing vessel. Information was transferred to Alaska State Troopers. 2:40 p.m. Caller said they were looking for someone and were unable to get ahold of them. Individual was later contacted. Subject said they were on a fishing vessel and had no service.

DMV HOURS:

From 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday unless otherwise posted. DMV is located at 602 Railroad Ave. Payments accepted for dog licenses, ATV/snow machine registrations and citations.
