Copper River Seafoods has received the 2019 National Business of the Year award from the National Association of State Workforce Agencies in recognition of their workforce development and utilization of Joe Center Programs.

The award was presented to Scott Blake, chief executive officer of Copper River Seafoods, in ceremonies on Sept. 11 at the Boston Plaza Hotel.

The National Business of the Year award recognizes small, medium or large businesses that demonstrate outstanding accomplishments resulting in a positive impact on its workforce, industry and community. Additionally, a significant part of this recognition is based on the business’ support and use of the state public workforce system.

Blake credited the state’s workforce development program and his own company’s human resources team for achieving a sustainable workforce every year for Copper River Seafoods.

The company, founded in Cordova in 1996, focuses on wild caught, sustainable seafood harvested in the majority of the state’s salmon fisheries.
