$18 M in health, human services funds coming to Alaska

Health and human services funds totaling $212,586 are coming to the Native Village of Eyak as part of an $18 million plus package for several dozen entities in urban and rural areas of Alaska.

The two NVE grants, for $167,000 and $79,454, were awarded under the Health Center Cluster Grant Program and will go toward fighting the opioid epidemic.

Other grants benefit the Alaska Department of Health, community health clinics, and numerous tribal facilities serving areas including Bristol Bay Borough, Cook Inlet, Dutch Harbor, Fairbanks, the Kenai Peninsula, Kodiak, Kotzebue, Yakutat and the Yukon Kuskokwim region.

The grants were announced on Monday, Sept. 16, by Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, who said the health and wellbeing of Alaskans is one of his top concerns in Congress.

“Time and time again Alaska’s health care providers have been able to rise to the occasion to deliver high-quality care in our cities, rural areas and Native communities,” Young said.
