Someone recently asked me how many people work on the newspaper. There are just three actual staff members on our team. But there are many hands and minds at work each week to operate this publication and get it in our readers’ hands and browsers.

Since it’s a month of gratitude, I want to take a moment to recognize those people. Thank you to everyone involved in The Cordova Times:

  • Vivian Kennedy and Zachary Snowdon Smith — this newspaper wouldn’t exist each week without you.
  • Our wonderful freelancers: Margaret Bauman, Dick Shellhorn, Cathy Sherman, Jane Spencer, Jen Rose Smith, Teal Barmore, Bree Mills, Laine Welch and many more — you ARE The Cordova Times.
  • Penny Johnson, along with her fantastic team of paper kids, makes sure the newspaper gets from the airplane to readers’ hands across Cordova each week.
  • Our excellent accounting team Laura Blackadar, Celeste Gasman and Jim Gittleson.
  • Everyone at Native Village of Eyak. Special thanks to Bert Adams, Reyna Newirth, Rebecca Calfina, Denna Francischetti and Aniessa Hodges, for all the big and little things you do.
  • Andy Pfeiffer, Steve Bambakidis and Amanda Hayes, our IT and web gurus.
  • NVE Tribal Council for seeing the newspaper’s value to the community.
  • Amy Guse and all the folks at PIP who handle mail delivery.
  • Geoff Rhodes and Hallie Taylor and the rest of Anchorage Printing for the high-quality printing and attention to detail.
  • NVE for gifting the newspaper to 400 Tribal government and Alaska Native corporation offices across Alaska.
  • Jennifer Gibbins for saving the newspaper in 2011 and recruiting me to be a part of this team. I don’t know where I would be without your bravery and mentorship.
  • Members of our team who have moved on to new adventures, but helped grow the newspaper to what it is today, especially Cynthia Gibbens-Stimson and Emily Mesner.
  • Our vendors Nichols, AC Value, Alaskan Hotel Bar, and Camtu Center.
  • Those who buy extra papers to share: Whale’s Tale, Eyak Inn, Cordova Community Medical Center and Powder House.
  • Our wonderful advertisers, especially those with long-term commitments: Cordova Telecom Cooperative, Trident Seafoods, Native Village of Eyak, City of Cordova, Copper Valley Wireless, Nichols, The Eyak Corporation, Alaska Native Medical Center, LFS, Copper River Shared Services, Ilanka Community Health Center, Ilanka Cultural Center, Prince William Sound Science Center, Eyak Inn, Cordova Electric Cooperative, Copper River Boats and Permits, Prince William Marina, Cordova Outboard, Goodrich Accounting, Alaska Boats and Permits, Alaska Air, Bryan Mills, and the Cordova Chamber.
  • Photo contributors, opinion columnists, letter-writers and sources of all kinds. We love to hear from you.
  • Most of all, thank you to our wonderful readers who pick up the print edition, read online and engage with us on social media. We are here because of you. Keep reading. Keep engaging.
