Veterans asked to share stories

Military veterans in Alaska are being asked to share stories of their service with Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, who says he will then continue to commemorate Veterans Day on social media throughout the month of November.

“Alaska’s veterans are not only our family members, but our friends, neighbors and community leaders,” said Young, whose office is partnering with the Library of Congress to preserve the stories of Alaska’s veterans for generations to come.

The Veterans History Project collects first-hand accounts of America’s veterans through audio and video recordings and with collections of original photographs, letters and diaries.

Veterans are invited to compose a short paragraph not exceeding 200 words, detailing the veteran’s name, branch of service, rank and where and when they served. The submission may include a maximum of two photos and email them to akveteransday@mail.house.gov.

Others wishing to submit a veteran’s story, should ensure permission of that veteran to share their stories on Young’s social media accounts.

More information on how to contribute to this project can be found on Young’s website.
