Holiday Gallery Opening

The Cordova Historical Society is hosting a Holiday Gallery Opening from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 at the Copper River Gallery. The event is open to the public and free to attend. Refreshments will be provided.

Hometown Holiday Kick-off

The Cordova Chamber of Commerce’s Holiday Kick-off begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 on First Street. Gather at the Community Center for hot chocolate and Christmas carols, watch the Fire Department Parade and Santa light the tree before heading to the annual Bidarki Holiday Bazaar.

Holiday Bazaar

The City of Cordova and Parks and Rec. Department is hosting their 2019 Bidarki Holiday Bazaar from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Mt. Eccles Elementary School.

Moonlight Madness

Shop Cordova First during the first night of Moonlight Madness starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6. For a list of participating businesses who are staying open late, look for the Chamber’s ad inside this week’s Gift Guide, or visit the Chamber at cordovachamber.com.

FIRST Lego League Qualifiers

Mt. Eccles FIRST Lego League (FLL) teams in fourth, fifth, and sixth grade will hold an event on Saturday, Dec 7 and the CHS Jr. High FLL on Saturday, Dec. 14. Both events will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the CHS Tech Lab with matches starting around noon. For more information, email the Tech Club at tech.club@cordovasd.org.

Mamma Mia!

Stage of the Tide presents “Mamma Mia!” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8. Tickets are $15 and are available at the Net Loft and the Cordova Museum.

Cordova Community Foundation Celebration

The Cordova Community Foundation is celebrating its first year of endowment-building. The community is invited for h’ors d’oeuvres, wine and beer from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the Cordova Center.

Christmas Bird Count

The Prince William Sound Audubon Society’s annual Christmas Bird Count begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. Start at the Cordova Center’s Education Room for sign up and route assignments. Beginner birders welcome. Feeder watchers needed. For more information, contact Milo Burcham at 907-429-5878.

Breakfast with Santa

The Coast Guard Spouses Association is hosting their annual scholarship fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Mt. Eccles commons. Pictures with Santa are included with breakfast. Child plates are $10 and adult plates are $15. All proceeds go to senior scholarships.

Rummage Sale

CHS Student Council is hosting a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 in the CHS commons. Bring donation items to Mrs. Hottinger’s room or contact her for pick up at shottinger@cordovasd.org or call 907-253-5785. No furniture. Proceeds support Student Council events and activities.

Main Street Lamp Post Contest

Decorate a lamp post to make Main Street sparkle this holiday season and you could win great prizes. Poles must be decorated before Dec. 6. To sign up to adopt a pole and for more information, contact Lynn Steen at Steen’s Gifts at 907-424-8327.

Harbor Arts heART SHOW

The heART SHOW now features works from Harbor Arts artists. As arts pieces sell, they may be taken home and new works will go up in their place. A percentage of sales will go to Cordova Arts and the show will hang until late December.

Open gym for Cordova’s youth

The Bidarki Rec Center has reserved open gym time for Cordova’s youth. Ages 12 to 18 are welcome to enjoy the gym for free from 1:30-4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. For more information, contact the Bidarki at 907-424-7282 or stop by the facility at 103 Council Ave.

Skeet and trap

Tot Time

The Bidarki Rec Center opens the upstairs gym for little ones 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Toys, mats and other items are provided so tots and their caregivers can enjoy some free, inside playtime, rain or shine. There is no fee to attend.

Morning Music

Elementary school children are welcome to come and sing and play guitar, fiddle, ukulele, bass, mandolin, and banjo from 8:05 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. on Thursdays and Fridays at the elementary school music room. Older kids, parents and community members are welcome and needed as helpers. Pre-schoolers can come with their parents or caregivers.

Moms, Pops & Tots

Life Hacks for Kids

Life Hacks for Kids is a free weekly after-school program at Cordova Public Library for students grades four through six. Students will learn useful life skills such as using common household tools, restaurant etiquette and ordering, grocery shopping, laundry, camping, first aid and fire safety, and basic sewing. Gospel sing-along

Join members of St. George’s Episcopal Church on Tuesdays from 4-5 p.m. at the Cordova Community Medical Center for a gospel sing-along to bring smiles to the long-term residents and hospital staff. For more information contact Belle at 907-424-5143.

Knit & Lit Book Club

Bring your knitting and join the Knit & Lit Book Club at 7 p.m. at the fireplacein the Cordova Public Library, the last Tuesday of every month.

Ilanka community wellness and recovery support circle

A wellness and recovery support circle will meet on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Ilanka Wellness Center located at the old DMV office across from St. George’s Episcopal Church. The group is for those wanting to develop skills to live a substances-free life in a safe environment. For more information, call John at 907-424-3622.

A children’s story time activity will be held at the Cordova Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays. Caregivers must attend.

Celebrate Recovery

A Christian program to help overcome issues with substance use, abuse, divorce, fear, anxiety, food, gambling, and other hurts, habits and hang-ups is every Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene’s Christian Education Building on Adams Avenue. Cordova Disc Golf Club putting league
