The Cordova 2020 budget has been approved by Council. We are pleased to report the budget is balanced without an increase to our sales tax and without any reduction to the services we all rely on.

We are committed to providing efficient and cost-effective government service and challenged all City departments to put together a realistic budget that took into account revenue reductions from the State. The budget reflects their earnest efforts.

The budget is not without some new revenue. We implemented a 6% surcharge on Alcohol, Tobacco and Marijuana to reflect the impact those substances can have on our community’s health and safety. Our fees and utility rates increased by 5% to reflect the actual cost of service.

The Alaska Marine Highway and Cordova Community Medical Center are other challenges we are hard at work to find solutions during 2020.

Council has asked staff to continue looking for efficiencies, partnerships and other fund sources as we look ahead to the 2021 budget. As always, Council is committed to being good stewards of your tax dollars and city resources.

We look forward to working with you to keep Cordova the special place it is.
