Letter to the Editor: Congratulations, Tom Carpenter

With a lot of local pride, we serving on the Copper River/PWS Advisory Committee recently were notified our long-time game chair, Tom Carpenter, is among this year’s recipients of the statewide AC Excellence in Service Award given by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s Board Support.

This distinction is awarded to Alaska residents across the state who have distinguished themselves in their elected roles to bring local community input into the various state and federal resource management processes including the Boards of Fish and Game and the Federal Subsistence Board.

Serving on our local committee for over two decades, and longtime re-elected local committee chairman, Tom brings vast experience and perspective to these ofttimes contentious management meetings. Equally important, any local committee meeting chaired by Tom is always organized, inclusive and well led — Tom gets all voices heard, and he knows procedure but never at the expense of thoughtful, wide-ranging discussion.

It’s folks like Tom who ensure Cordova and PWS’s voice is always heard and respected at these deliberations. On behalf of the AC and the broader community and region, thanks and congratulations, Tom.
