Legislators representing the Cordova area have been working to get ferry service restored on a more regular basis to Prince William Sound by getting funds cut by Gov. Mike Dunleavy back into the state budget.

A joint session of the Legislature on Jan. 24 failed to override a $74 million cut by Dunleavy from last year’s budget that would have gone to the ferry system, plus kindergarten through senior high schools across the state. The vote was 37-20 in both houses of the Legislature, but 45 votes were needed for the override to pass. Rep. Louise Stutes and Sen. Gary Stevens, both R-Kodiak, voted for the override.
