Cordova’s young Lady Wolverines swept past Tok by scores of 29-23 and 24-9 in home hoops action here on Feb. 28-29.
CHS managed only one basket in the first quarter of the first game and trailed 12-10 at halftime. A pair of three pointers by sophomore Jacey Pallas sparked Cordova’s second half rally.
Solid, aggressive defense also made a big difference. Cordova held Tok to only one field goal in the third period, and CHS outscored the visitors 19-11 in the second half to win by 6.
Pallas led Cordova with 12 points; fellow sophomore Gwethalyn Jacob added 10.
Once again lack of ferry transportation forced Cordova to play early games on Saturday, Feb. 29, so Tok could catch the mid-day Alaska Airlines flight back to Anchorage.
The opening tip was at 9 a.m., and early morning basketball did not suit Tok well, as they scored 3 points in the first quarter, 0 points in the second quarter, 2 points in the third quarter and 4 points in the last quarter. Constant Cordova full court pressure was a key factor.
Amee Hamberger led Cordova with 9 points; Gwethalyn Jacob added 8.
Cordova played the series with four freshman and three sophomores.
