The Cordova Family Resource Center is conducting a community-wide survey on interpersonal violence, substance abuse and mental health issues. The survey was announced Tuesday, March 10 at the CFRC Annual Dinner, and will continue until May 1.

The survey will set a baseline of community attitudes about interpersonal violence, and will identify any social issues not adequately addressed by current CFRC programs, Executive Director Nicole Songer said. Any resident 18 or older is eligible to participate in the survey. All survey participants will be entered into a drawing for a single round-trip ticket to Anchorage.

The CFRC must collect 200-300 completed surveys in order to produce a reliable result, Songer said. The survey will be repeated in two-three years, measuring how attitudes have changed.

“It’s important for us to… have good data, so we can have a good baseline, so we can tweak our program to meet the needs of the community and have a societal change, because that’s what we’re ultimately wanting,” Songer said.

The CFRC also used the March 10 event to update members on their activities of the past year, such as the BIONIC youth program’s Teen Dating Violence Awareness Week event and the Girls on the Run 5k race event. Fundraising efforts were strong throughout 2019, Songer said. Fundraising is of particular importance to the CFRC, as it allows the organization to cover miscellaneous costs not eligible for grant funding.

The CFRC’s next major fundraising event will be a gift basket auction to be held April 11.
