Alaska PFD distribution begins July 1

Distribution of Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend checks, normally going out in October, will begin July 1.

Gov. Mike Dunleavy made the announcement at the close of a teleconference on Wednesday, May 20, citing the economic difficulties of individual Alaskans and businesses brought on by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

PFD checks usually go out in October, “but we’re in extraordinary times and we need to make sure the people of Alaska have cash in their hands to help with this economy,” Dunleavy said. “I can’t think of a better time to do it than now.”

As of May 20, the state’s Permanent Fund Dividend Division had received 671,364 PFD applications and 85 percent of those applicants have been determined to be eligible.

Because not all applicants will be determined by June 19, some Alaskans may receive payments July 23, Aug. 20 or in subsequent months thereafter. The division pays dividends monthly until all eligible Alaskans are paid.
