Letter to the Editor: Leave no trace

Hello Cordova! Does this photo look familiar?

A friendly reminder from your local forest service folks: Use your public land! But please, do so responsibly.

Cordova Ranger District does as much as possible to support the recreation needs of this community and facilitate your outdoor adventures. When national forest land is misused — recreation sites trashed, pallet fires strewing nails all over ground where the bare feet of young children love to play — then restrictions become necessary.

Treat your public land as you would treat your backyard, because that’s exactly what it is. Enjoy Chugach National Forest and remember to leave each site better than you found it, ready for the next adventurer.

Leave No Trace principles can be applied to front-country sites as well as wilderness. Learn more at lnt.org and remember the seventh and final principle: be considerate of other visitors.
