Letter to the Editor: A thank-you to Cordova’s educators

To Cordova School District Administration,

You put in countless hours on virtual meetings during this fourth quarter of school. You had to make big decisions on the delivery of education, expectations of school staff, meal service, graduations and concerts, and more. You also had to make decisions about seemingly small details that may have had large impacts on someone’s life.

Through it all, I want to express my appreciation because I felt supported and respected by you. You set parameters that enabled me to successfully work from home and stay sane. I’m especially grateful that all staff at Cordova School District, even support staff, were able to continue working and to continue being paid. Not all school districts did this, and I feel grateful to be part of CSD.

To those working behind the scenes:

The teams working under Jason Fastenau, Josh Pearson and Sandie Ponte are amazing! I could not have done my job without each of you, or without CTC, who generously helped with my internet needs.

Thank you for your hours of work on behalf of our children’s education. Community and parental support is always important. It’s even more vital, however, when students are doing school at home!

Thank you, too, for giving our kids rich educational experiences not tied to the classroom. I’ve seen students out fishing, building, tide-pooling and exploring their curiosities — all rich learning experiences!

Quwana and Awa Ah’dah,

Laura Bowman
