In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and its associated economic turmoil, now may seem an unlikely time to open a new business, particularly one that requires close personal contact with customers. However, these concerns haven’t stopped Rich and Mya Bingham from launching a new chiropractic and massage practice in Cordova. NorthStar Alignment is planned to open its doors Tuesday, June 16 at the Pioneer Square building.

“We weren’t expecting all this to happen when we set up our plans, but we can roll with it,” Rich Bingham said. “Even though there’s this economic crisis going around, people’s focus on health and, especially, natural health care has been increasing exponentially. Even with the whole COVID-19 pandemic, even though it’ll be a little slower getting off the ground… I think it’ll still be okay.”

In December, Rich Bingham obtained a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the University of Western States in Portland, Ore. He previously interned with Premier Sports Chiropractic. Mya Bingham previously practiced in Cordova as a licensed massage therapist.

The therapy NorthStar Alignment will provide can help alleviate back and neck pain as well as aches picked up at work, Rich Bingham said.

“We treat a whole slew of conditions,” Rich Bingham said. “It helps with pain relief. It helps you move better if you’re getting older. It really helps keep that motion in your body, which tends to not want to move sometimes.”

NorthStar Alignment will stagger patients’ appointments so that all touch surfaces can be thoroughly disinfected between sessions, Rich Bingham said. Therapy providers will wear masks while working, and patients will also be provided masks if they want them. Face shielding will also be available, he said.

Rich Bingham hopes to integrate his practice into the community, working with local health care providers like Ilanka Community Health Center and Cordova Community Medical Center, he said.
