Law & Order: May 15-June 4

The following incidents were reported to the Cordova Police Department between May 15-June 4 Any charges reported in these press releases are merely accusations and the defendant and/or defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.


Friday, May 15
7:25 a.m. Caller reported a loud noise near their house.  An officer responded to the reported location but was unable to locate the source of the noise.

Saturday, May 16
9:17 a.m. Caller reported a vehicle that was speeding at an estimated speed of 60 mph on Whitshed Road.  An officer responded to the area but was unable to locate the vehicle.  10:51 p.m. Caller requested to have somebody removed from their home.  An officer responded and provided transport to the individual.

Sunday, May 17
11:18 a.m. Caller reported that they had spotted a dog who may be neglected and barks at all hours of the night while being tied up outside.  An officer contacted the dog’s owner and issued a verbal warning.

Monday, May 18
8:25 a.m. Caller reported the remains of a vehicle accident on Whitshed Road. An officer is currently investigating this incident.

Tuesday, May 19
1:17 a.m. Caller requested a civil stand by.  4:16 p.m. Caller reported they were attacked by a dog.  An officer is still investigating this circumstance. 5:44 p.m. Caller requested an ambulance.  The ambulance responded and transported the patient to the hospital.

Wednesday, May 20
4:42 a.m. Caller requested an ambulance.  The ambulance responded and transported the patient to the hospital. 9:51 p.m. Dispatched received an automated fire alarm call from a local cannery. Two officers responded to the location of the alarm and determined that it was a false alarm.

Thursday, May 21
4:40 p.m. CCMC requested an ambulance for a medical transport to the 13 Mile airport.  6:51 p.m. Caller reported an intoxicated pedestrian unconscious on Mt. Eyak.  An officer patrolled the area and located the campsite of the intoxicated pedestrian, but the individual was no longer in the area.

Friday, May 22
1:17 p.m. Caller reported two individuals playing basketball and not following COVID-19 mandates.  An officer responded but was unable to locate the reported individuals. 6:15 p.m. Caller reported a possible domestic violence incident at a neighbor’s house.  An officer responded and found that the events did not meet the criteria for domestic violence and the two parties separated for the night.

Monday, May 25
12:33 a.m. Caller requested an ambulance.  An ambulance responded and transported the patient to the hospital. 1:31 p.m. Caller requested an ambulance.  An ambulance responded and transported the patient to the hospital.

Tuesday, May 26
2:33 a.m. Caller requested an ambulance.  An ambulance responded but the patient declined transport. 10:16 Caller reported a set of individuals using public facilities that are closed due to covid-19.  An officer responded and the individuals willingly left.

Wednesday, May 27
2:08 a.m. An officer conducted a traffic stop.  During the traffic stop, it was determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol but was not intoxicated. The driver was cited for MOCA and MCA. 1:26 a.m. Caller reported 2 individuals we’re using public facilities that we’re closed due to COVID-19.  An officer responded but was unable to locate the individuals.

Thursday, May 28
3:50 a.m. Caller reported an individual had fallen overboard from a kayak in Eyak Lake. The Cordova Police Department, Cordova Volunteer Fire Department, Alaska State Troopers, U.S.C.G, and U.S.F.S. all responded to the area. The subject, Zak Zeigler, age 21, of Cordova, was located a short time later deceased. Zeigler was not wearing a life jacket.

Saturday, May 30
2:14 a.m. Caller requested a welfare check on her son. An officer managed to get ahold of the individual and determined everything was okay. 12:24 p.m. Caller reported a caller was speeding in front of their house.  An officer responded to the area but was unable to locate the vehicle.

Sunday, May 31
6:14 p.m. Caller reported being harassed.  An officer spoke with the suspect and issued a verbal warning. 8:08 p.m. An officer conducted a traffic stop and found the vehicle to not have current motor vehicle insurance.  Daniel Jeppson, age 36, of Cordova, Alaska, was arrested by citation for driving without motor vehicle insurance and violation of conditions of release. 

Monday, June 1
2:32 p.m. Caller reported that an individual was getting into impounded vehicles.  An officer responded and trespassed the individual.

Tuesday, June 2
9:32 a.m. Caller reported a noise complaint.  An officer responded but was unable to locate the source of the noise.

Wednesday, June 3
5:38 p.m. CCMC requested an ambulance for a transport to the 13 Mile airport.  An ambulance responded and provided transport. 6:08 p.m. Caller requested a welfare check.  An officer responded and requested an ambulance for assistance.

Thursday, June 4
6:56 a.m. Caller reported suspicious activity in Coast Guard housing.  An officer responded and trespassed an individual from the area.

DMV hours
Tuesday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. unless otherwise posted. DMV is located at 602 Railroad Ave. Payments now accepted for dog licenses, ATV/snow machine registrations and citations.
