The Cordova Burn Pile will be closed from Tuesday, Sept. 29-Oct. 5 so that it can be relocated by about 50 feet, officials announced. The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities requires the burn pile to be moved out of a public right-of-way and onto city property in order to replace culverts at nearby Fleming Lagoon Pond.

The project will help beautify the area and will allow vehicles to pull completely off the road for safer access, according to an announcement by the city of Cordova. City officials requested that community members not make dumps at the site during the closure.
