Law & Order: Sept. 18-24

The following incidents were reported to the Cordova Police department between Sept. 18-24. Any charges reported in these press releases are merely accusations and the defendant and/or defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.


Friday, Sept. 18
9:01 a.m. CCMC requested an ambulance for a medical transport to the 13-mile airport. An ambulance responded and provided transport. 12:35 p.m. Officer provided security at the 13-mile airport. 4:16 p.m. USCG requesting assistance from AWT for a personal locator beacon going off. AWT and USFS officers responded. Officers conducted a security patrol of the 13-mile airport.

Saturday, Sept. 19
7:18 a.m. Caller requested a welfare check on an individual. 9 a.m. All officers, fire, and medic units participated in a triannual airport disaster drill. 9:01 a.m. CCMC requested an ambulance for a medical transport to the 13-mile airport. An ambulance responded and provided transport.

Sunday, Sept. 20
12:30 p.m. Officer provided security at the 13-mile airport. 1:00 p.m. TSA requested an officer for prohibited items found in carry-on bag. Items were taken for safekeeping. 5:35 p.m. Caller reported a vehicle parked on Power Creek Road and the occupants inside appeared like they were falling asleep. An officer responded to Power Creek Road, but was unable to locate the vehicle.

Monday, Sept. 21
12:00 p.m. Officers provided security at the 13-mile airport. 1:16 p.m. Caller reported people trespassing on city property. 2:06 p.m. FBI Anchorage called to enquire about an individual who may be in town. Officer confirmed individual lives here. 2:30 p.m. Officers contacted people trespassing and advised them of such.

Tuesday, Sept. 22
8:45 a.m. Caller reported vandalism that had occurred on their property. An officer responded and investigated this incident. 9:25 a.m. An individual reported to the station for fingerprinting. 11:30 a.m. Received court summons and served on parties. 12:25 Officers provided security at the 13-mile airport. 1:30 p.m. Caller reported their vehicle had been backed into by another vehicle. An officer responded and completed an accident report. 4:32 p.m. Caller reported they had discovered a bag with possible illegal drug residue at the post office. An officer responded and is investigating. 19:30 p.m. Officer conducted K9 training with K9 Eyak. Officer conducted a security patrol of the 13-mile airport.

Wednesday, Sept. 23
9:55 p.m. A panic alarm for the First National Bank was received. An officer responded and found it to be a false alarm. 10:06 a.m. 911 call from elevator phone. Fire officer responded. 12:00 p.m. Officers provided security at the 13-mile airport. 9 p.m. Officer conducted community service with K9 Eyak. 9:30 p.m. Individual came to station to discuss civil matters with an officer. Officer conducted a security patrol of the 13-mile airport.

Thursday, Sept. 24
The Cordova Police Department received notification of a possible $50,000 extraditable warrant for failure to appear for a local resident by the name of James Jones. An officer investigated this tip and determined that the warrant was still valid and extraditable to the state of California. James Jones, age 23, of Cordova, Alaska, was taken into custody for the warrant. 12:20 p.m. Officer provided security at the 13-mile airport. 13:15 An individual reported to the station for fingerprinting. 5:52 p.m. Caller requested an ambulance. The ambulance responded and transported the patient to the hospital. 6:17 p.m. Caller reported an assault. An officer responded and investigated the incident. 8:48 p.m. An individual came to the station to talk to an officer about an ongoing investigation. Officer conducted a security patrol at the 13-mile airport.

DMV hours
From 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday unless otherwise posted. DMV is located at 602 Railroad Ave. Payments are now accepted for dog licenses, ATV/snow machine registrations and citations.
