Around Town: Watershed fundraiser, Voting Day, Pen Pal Program

Wild Watershed Virtual Fundraiser
The Copper River Watershed Project invites all to connect virtually to watch a documentary-style video featuring community members, Copper River scenery and CRWP projects in the watershed. Their virtual fundraiser will take place 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 and is accompanied by a Virtual Silent Auction, which closes at 5 p.m. following the virtual event.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s next Drug Take Back Day is Oct. 24. The event aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. Local medication disposal
Although Cordova does not provide dedicated disposal drop-off locations, drug disposal pouches are available at CCMC, ICHC and AC Value Center for at-home disposal of unused medications year-round. Voting Day
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cordova Center. Early in-person voting will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning Oct. 19 through Election Day at the Cordova Center. Salvation Army Food Pantry
The Salvation Army continues to serve the community of Cordova through its Service Extension Ministry. A food pantry is located at 514 1st St. If you need food assistance and pantry is not open, please call Steve at 907-429-6262. The next food distribution day is set for Monday, Oct. 26.

National Bullying Awareness
MonthEvery October, schools and organizations across the country work together to stop bullying and cyberbullying to put an end to hatred and racism by increasing awareness of the prevalence and impact of all forms of bullying on all children of all ages. Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) is held each October as a way to unite advocates across the nation in their efforts to end domestic violence, acknowledge domestic violence survivors and be a voice for its victims. Native Village of Eyak and the Cordova Family Resource Center offers confidential assistance. Moms, Pops & Tots Storytime
Native Village of Eyak hosts story time each week at 4 p.m. Thursdays via Zoom. Register in advance to receive the Zoom invite where you and your child can listen to a story and then share your favorite story with the group. Ilanka Community Wellness & Recovery Support Circle meetings are 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays at the Masonic Lodge. Cordova Public Library is open by appointment and curbside delivery. Space is limited to allow proper social distancing and cleaning procedures.
