Alaska Longline Fishermen’s Association and Alaska Sustainable Fisheries Trust are hosting a Fall Virtual Fishermen’s Expo Nov. 11-12, complete with free educational workshops for local commercial and subsistence fishermen of all gear types.
ALFA officials said links to attend the workshops will be provided prior to the event, which has gone virtual this year because of the novel coronavirus, with technical assistance available.
Interactive classes to be offered will include fuel efficiency and hybrid energy, hull modifications and boat conversions, how to fish black cod slinky pots, current groundfish pot gear manufacturer updates, body ergonomics of fishing, fisheries policy 101 and how to get involved, mariculture opportunities and much more.
Attendees are welcome to participate in as many sessions as they are able.
Raffle prizes are available for participants that attend sessions. Prizes include a two-hour welding credit to Precision Boatworks, a $350 fuel credit to Delta Western, and more. All presentations will provide time for questions.
The expo is part of a push by ALFA and ASFT to provide educational opportunities for harvesters, especially those who new to the industry.
