Copper River Prince William Sound Marketing Association has named Mathias Reid as its programs coordinator. A recent marketing graduate from Pacific University, Reid grew up in Cordova, where he worked on various commercial fishing boats. Reid joined the marketing association as a digital marketing specialist earlier this year.

“Having grown up in Cordova, I was of course greatly impacted by the fishing industry,” Reid said. “From my father to my friends, many of the people I interacted with were or are involved in fishing in some way or another. Being able to return to Cordova and work for the benefit of these people is a great pleasure that I am immensely thankful for.”

The marketing association is funded by the drift and set net salmon fleet in Alaska Department of Fish and Game management area E, Prince William Sound and the Copper River District. At this time, a staff of two works to boost market demand for salmon for both the Prince William Sound and Copper River areas, as well as provide business-to-business support for promotions of the established Copper River brand and the emerging Prince William Sound brand.

“The prospect of hiring a local Cordova resident that grew up in our specific fishery would have been simply too much to ask for and then Mathias Reid walked into the office looking for an internship,” said Christa Hoover, executive director for the marketing association. “Mathias has flourished in this environment with his fisheries background and brand awareness coupled with a marketing degree. I look forward to discovering his unique strengths and helping him build on them.”
