After evading the novel coronavirus all spring and summer, the staff of the harbor at Whittier has seen several asymptomatic staff test positive for the virus. Harbormaster David Borg said Tuesday, Dec. 1 that they will all observe a 14-day quarantine period.

“In an abundance of caution and to mitigate further spread of the virus, we have closed the office for the next 14 days,” Borg said.

With the field staff now down to himself, he will not be able to process requests for stalls, moorage agreements and waitlist renewals, as his primary goal will be ensuring that vessels in the harbor are safe and that snow removal efforts are addressed.

Meanwhile Borg said that anyone in need of assistance during the quarantine period should call the main number at the harbor, 907-472-2327 ext. 7, and leave a voicemail, which he will respond to as soon as possible.

All correspondence, whether by mail or email, will be cataloged and addressed as soon as harbor staff returns from quarantine, he said.
