The Cordova Legislative Information Office reopened Dec. 1. The office is open from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. by appointment, with staff adjourning for an approximately 30-minute lunch break around noon.

The office will be staffed by Amy Hodgkins, who replaced Nancy Bird Aug. 1. Hodgkins, who has spent most of her life as a resident of Valdez, visited Cordova in 2013 to work in the commercial fishing industry. In March, she relocated to Cordova. While in Valdez, Hodgkins spent two years working full-time at the town’s LIO.

LIOs offer residents free assistance keeping track of legislation, communicating with legislators, testifying at teleconferenced hearings, submitting written testimony and researching laws and statutes. Hodgkins said she will endeavor to offer the same services as Bird, who additionally lent assistance with procedures related to Social Security, immigration and the Permanent Fund Dividend.

“We are the link between the community and the powers in Juneau,” Hodgkins said. “It’s my job to make that an easier process for people.”

To schedule an appointment at the LIO, call 907-424-5461. The LIO can also be reached at lio.cordova@akleg.gov.
