Recently, turtles were brought into the fourth grade classroom at Mt. Eccles Elementary School.

Stefanie Tschappat, the fourth grade teacher, had class pets last year and decided to get turtles at the pet store this year. She brought the turtles so that the students can connect with the turtles and learn responsibility. The students clean the tank and feed them every two-to-three days.

“The breed is a box turtle and expected to live for around 30 years,” Tschappat said. The children also have to be cautious with the turtles as to not harm them.
