ADF&G solicits bids for PWS Pollock test fishery

Alaska Department of Fish and Game officials are soliciting bids to contract a vessel for a test fishery using pelagic trawl gear in early January to harvest up to 408 metric tons (900,000 pounds) of Pollock in Prince William Sound Registration Area E.

Bids must be received at the ADF&G office in Homer by noon Jan. 7.

Eligible vessels must register for the 2021 Prince William Sound directed Pollock pelagic trawl fishery, the same area where the test fishery will occur. Revenues generated from the test fishery will be used to offset costs of assessment and management in Prince William Sound.

The test fishery is to occur the week before the regulatory opening of the Prince William Sound directed Pollock pelagic trawl fishery from noon Jan. 12 to noon Jan. 19, or following closure of the commercial fishery, for which timing will depend on when and if the guideline harvest level is achieved.

The minimum bid price is 30 cents a pound. Bids will be accepted for three individual lots of 300,000 pounds each. Contracts will be awarded to the highest bidder(s) within three decimal places for each of three lots.

For further information call ADF&G in Homer at 907-235-8191 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Leave a voicemail request including a contact fax number for Jan Rumble to receive the packet by fax, or email janet.rumble@alaska.gov to get the packet by email.
