Update: Statewide COVID-19 infections reach 55,005

Infections of the novel coronavirus in Alaska have reached 55,005, with a total of 184 new novel coronavirus infections documented on Thursday, Feb. 4, including two in the Valdez-Cordova Census Area, state health officials said.

The statewide death toll from the virus remains at 277 residents and two nonresidents., with no new deaths confirmed, according to Alaska Department of Health and Social Services.

To date, 53,114 residents and 1,891 nonresidents have been infected with COVID-19.

There has been a total of 1,214 hospitalizations. According to the DHSS dashboard 41 people currently hospitalized are confirmed to be COVID positive and two additional patients whose conditions is under investigation. Ten of these patients were on ventilators.  These numbers are updated, with corrections, daily at covid19.alaska.gov.

Twenty-six new nonresident cases include 23 in the seafood industry in Aleutians East Borough, two at Unalaska and one at an undisclosed location.

One nonresident case was added to the DHSS data dashboard due to data verification..

A total of 1,529,566 tests for COVID-19 have been conducted in Alaska to date, including 31,189 tests in the previous seven days.

To date 99,814 shots of the first dose and 34,192 shots of the second dose of COVID vaccine have been given in Alaska for a total of 134,006, according to DHSS. 

DHSS notes that even after being vaccinated people should practice COVID-19 protective measures, including masking, social distancing and hand washing.
