Friday, Feb. 26, Cordova Police Chief Nate Taylor issued a public apology for his role in a recent coronavirus outbreak. Taylor returned to Cordova from an out-of-state trip on Feb. 16 and did not spend the subsequent five days self-isolating as recommended.
Citizens of Cordova,
I am writing this letter to publicly apologize for my actions this past week that have caused so much hardship on this community that I love. I know nothing I say can undo what has been done but hope that others can learn from my mistake. I returned from travel out of town and did not follow the recommended guidelines to isolate for five days. This was a serious mistake, which has placed many of my friends unnecessarily at risk. It is a mistake I regret every day. These recommendations are in place to prevent the spread of COVID while asymptomatic, which is exactly what occurred in my case. I tested positive four days after I returned home and had I followed the guidelines only my household would have been affected, rather than our entire community. I would like to urge everyone to learn from my mistake and follow the guidelines that are in place. They are our best defense against further outbreaks.
I know I have breached a trust placed in me by this city and I will work tirelessly to earn that trust back. I love this town, I love the people, and I love what I do. I am wishing a speedy recovery to everyone affected, and, again, am deeply sorry for my role in this outbreak.
