I’m saddened and deeply disturbed by the article in the Cordova Times regarding officer Taylor and of the social media public stoning from members of the community. We have been living with this virus for a year now and have been trying the best we can to balance the seemingly endless guidelines with the need to resume normalcy.
Officer Taylor is a public figure and the decisions he makes may be held to a higher scrutiny, but he and his family are also valued members of this community. As you condemn him for what he has said to be a mistake and regrettable, please also remember the sacrifices and good he has done for this community.
We are all imperfect humans. We will all need mercy and grace from others from time to time. Let’s learn from the only perfect Being that walked this earth, Jesus Christ. When a woman was about to be publicly stoned by her community, Jesus says “The one of you who is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” John 8:7.
Needless to say, she was not stoned that day.
“For the way you judge others is how you will be judged- the measure with which you measure out will be used to measure to you. Why do you see the splinter in your brother’s eye but not notice the log in your own eye?” Jesus. Matthew 7:2-3.
Let’s be sure to extend mercy and grace to others often because there will surely be a time when we will need it ourselves. Let’s not be the community that publicly shames, assassinates character and takes the livelihood away from its citizens. Please stand with me in public support of Officer Taylor and his family!
