Shiway Wang to helm EVOSTC

Elise Hsieh, the long-time executive director of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council, has retired. The council’s science director, Shiway Wang, was appointed as acting executive director effective March 1.

Hsieh became executive director of the council in 2009 and in her early years worked to refine the scope of the council’s effort to restoration categories, including long-term herring research and monitoring, long-term monitoring of marine conditions and injured resources, shorter-term harbor protection/marine restoration projects, lingering oil, and habitat enhancement and protection.

This era of increased integrated and collaborative programs and projects marked the beginning of the new stage for the Council, which hopes these programs and projects will continue to be successful into their 10th year under Wang’s leadership.
