Orca Road will be closed to non-essential traffic from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 7 a.m.-noon Sunday to allow for the installation of improved culverts. The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities hopes to have the project completed by early June, the city announced.

The Northern Region Deep Culverts Stage III project will replace structurally deteriorated culverts with culverts designed to improve fish passage and hydrologic connectivity, according to a statement by DOT.

Orca Road is also referred to as New England Cannery Road.
