Tacos for Mans
A to-go taco feed fundraiser to help Greg Mans with medical expenses will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 16 at the Ski Hill Snack Shack. Plates will be priced at $15 for a 3-taco plate and $25 for a 5-taco plate. Pre-order with Jose by texting 907-885-5767 or emailing tacosformans@gmail.com. All proceeds will be donated to Greg.

Adoption fundraiser

CHS Homecoming 2021 Masquerade Fun Walk
The CHS Student Council is organizing a community wide fun walk to celebrate CHS Homecoming on Saturday, April 24. Everyone is invited to come out and walk, especially Alumni in their letterman jackets. The route will begin at 2 p.m. at CHS, walk up the Main Street sidewalk, turn at Bidarki, and walk back on the 2nd Street sidewalk. Masks and 6 ft. social distancing are required. Birds in Art
The Cordova Historical Museum & Copper River Gallery present an Alaska state-wide art show devoted to birds. Call for Artists: Open to all media from any Alaskan artist over age 18. Deadline is April 27. For more info, contact paula@cordovalibrary.org or call 907-424-6665.

Shorebird Festival
The 30th Annual Copper River Delta Shorebird Festival will take place May 6-9 in Cordova. Visit the festival’s website at coppershorebird.com for full details.

Federal Tax Deadline
The Treasury Department and the IRS announced that the 2020 individual federal income tax filing due date will be automatically extended from April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021. The IRS is not extending the estimated tax payment which will still be due by April 15. Details on this extension are in Notice 2021-21, posted on IRS.gov.

Cordova Gardeners Start Swap
The Cordova Greenhouse Initiative is hosting a spring seed swap from 6-8 p.m. on May 28 at the Red Dragon. Visit cdv.tiny.us/garden for more info and gardening tips.

Call for submissions
The Catch, a new electronic quarterly, is calling for submissions in poetry, short fiction, essay, photography and art, to be submitted at jillian.cordovapubliclibrary@gmail.com. Submissions are due by June 15 and should not exceed 1 MB in size.

Local Recycling
Fishing web, free of non-nylon materials (cork and lead line), can be dropped off at the Cordova City Baler in the fishing web recycling container. Lead acid battery recycling is located behind the NVE building on Nicholoff Way. Small batteries can be recycled at the Post Office. The City of Cordova recycles paper/cardboard, aluminum cans and glass at the lot behind AC. Join the Recycling Action Team by calling Shae Bowman at 907-424-3334 or emailing shae@copperriver.org.

Food Drive
Help Cordovans in need by donating your canned goods, non-perishable, and frozen items. The Native Village of Eyak is a food pantry for the Food Bank of Alaska at 110 Nicholoff Way. Call them at 907-424-7738 in the case of food emergencies. The Salvation Army has reopened their food bank at 514 1st St. on Main Street. Call Pastor Steve at 907-429-6262 to donate or receive food.

Saturday Soup
The next Saturday Soup event will begin at noon on Saturday, April 17 at the Salvation Army building. All are welcome and soup is free. Contact Pastor Steve Leppert if you wish to donate to future events.

Morning Music

Salmon Raffle
The Hospital Auxiliary is hosting a Copper River Salmon raffle. Tickets are $5 each. First prize wins a 20-pound (or greater) Copper River king salmon, and second prize is two Copper River sockeyes. Fish provided by local fishermen and available as soon as possible once the season opens. Fish will be delivered whole, unless won outside of Cordova. The Auxiliary will cover shipping costs. Tickets available at CCMC Clinic and retail pharmacy, Moose Lodge, The Powder House, The Little Cordova Bakery and from Auxiliary members. Questions? After-school Club
Mt. Eccles students are invited to NVE’s weekly After-school Club from 11 a.m.-noon on Fridays via Zoom. Grades will rotate. When it’s your grades’ week, stop by Mt. COVID-19 Vaccine Sign-Up
All Cordovans who want to receive the COVID-19 vaccine are asked to register at CDVCMC.com or call 907-424-3045. If registered, you will receive a call to set up an appointment as soon as you are eligible, and the vaccine is available.

Local COVID testing
Ilanka Community Health Center offers testing from 2 to 3 p.m. on Monday and Fridays downstairs across from the Episcopal Curch. Call 907-424-3622 to pre-register. The Cordova Community Medical Center offers testing as needed at the ambulance bay. Call 907-424-8000 to pre-register.

Flu shots
Flu shots are available at both local clinics. Call CCMC at 907-424-8200 and ICHC at 907-424-3622 to schedule an appointment.

TEEN/YA Art
