CPD officer receives certification

Cordova Police Department Officer Kyle Butler has received a new certification from the Alaska Police Standards Council, the department announced.

Butler received his APSC Basic Police Officer Certificate after 12 months of training carried out around Cordova and at the Alaska Department of Public Safety Training Academy in Sitka. Over this period, Butler completed 1,022 hours of training in Sitka and 1,176 hours of training around Cordova, equivalent to 55 40-hour work weeks.

The department congratulated Butler in a Monday, April 5 announcement.

“We’re happy that he completed his training and glad to have him on board,” Police Chief Nate Taylor said.

Of the department’s four officers, three now possess an APSC Basic Police Officer Certificate, Taylor said. The officer who has not yet obtained the certificate is not yet eligible to obtain it, Taylor said.
