Obituary: Paul Anthony Nicolo

May 3, 1963–April 11, 2021

Paul Anthony Nicolo.

Paul Anthony (Tony) Nicolo died unexpectedly April 11, 2021, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he lived for the past six years. Tony was born in Anchorage, Alaska on May 3, 1963 to William and Pat Nicolo. He was raised in Cordova where he attended school and graduated from Cordova High School in 1981.

Following high school, Tony moved to Seattle, Washington to attend cosmetology school. He was a successful hairdresser in Seattle salons for several years before changing course and becoming a barber. He developed a large clientele and eventually worked out of the Stewart Street Barber Shop in downtown Seattle. Poor health forced him to close his business and he relocated to Virginia. Tony was preparing to return to Alaska at the time of his death.

Tony was a personable, fun-loving, gregarious man with a huge laugh. He enjoyed cooking, was an avid reader of mysteries, an artist, and he enjoyed a good game of rummy.

Tony leaves his sister Rhonda Sleighter, his brother Steven Sleighter (Anne), his nephew Jason Barnes, his niece Teresa Barnes, his cousin Laurel McFarland, and many relatives in Philadelphia. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Pat Nicolo, his sister Alison Eklund, his brother Daniel Sleighter, his sister Mary Katherine Nicolo, and his dear friend Gerald Noel.

Arrangements were made by Cremation and Funeral Services of Tidewater, Norfolk, Virginia. The family will hold a private remembrance in Cordova.
