GAPP introduces the Surimi Paste Tracker

Processors of wild Alaska Pollock will soon be more informed on global surimi marketing possibilities, via the Surimi Paste Tracker, new tool offered by the Association of Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers.

According to GAPP CEO Craig Morris, this new tool will “quite literally illuminate the specifics around surimi paste production and facilitate forecasting, sales, management and overall better understanding of the composition of surimi paste, by species.”

Last year GAPP awarded a contract to Urner Barry, a firm which provides market information to the food industry, to build a tracker offering a better understanding of the importing countries in the global surimi paste trade and who was using what to supply that production.

The surimi supply tracker was built using public and private sources, including landings, production, exports and imports. It also utilizes input of external surimi experts and modeling where necessary to estimate production, exports and imports of surimi paste, by country, or the entire global marketplace.

GAPP plans to produce quarterly reports, starting in May, including data, to GAPP members, to help them make more informed decisions as an industry, Morris said.
