For The Cordova Times

Teachers, crafters, painters, and artists of all kinds, we need you! Brighten Cordova by painting a dumpster, share your art with the community by selling your wares at the artisan market, or host a workshop and teach your craft to others.

Cordova Arts & Pageants is seeking artists to sell their handicrafts at this year’s Salmon Jam artisan market. The market will take place Friday July 16 from 6-9 p.m., and Saturday July 17 from 7-10 p.m. Applications are now open and can be found at salmonjam.org/market. The deadline to complete the application is July 5. There is a booth fee of $60 which includes two Salmon Jam weekend passes for the artist and one helper. This fee goes toward supporting year-round cultural and arts education programs in Cordova. One lucky vendor will be voted “Best in Show” by their fellow vendors and rewarded a free booth rental for next year’s Salmon Jam.

If you have nothing to sell (or even if you do!) and enjoy painting, keep Cordova colorful by painting a dumpster. Work as a team or alone to turn a blank dumpster canvas into a beautiful work of art that will keep a smile on Cordovans’ faces through the dark winter months. Reserve your dumpster on the Salmon Jam website at https://salmonjam.org/get-involved. And don’t forget to thank Cordova’s refuse workers who, in partnership with Cordova Arts & Pageants, prep the dumpsters and help make this event happen!

Lastly, we want to encourage any local artisans or businesses to host a workshop the week of Salmon Jam — workshops could range from fish printing to knitting, painting, or any other skill you want to share with our community. Let’s bring Cordova together to teach, learn, and create art!

If you’re no artist, but still want to get involved in Salmon Jam, don’t fret: there are plenty of volunteer opportunities. Checkout https://salmonjam.org/get-involved for more information.
