Ferry schedule review

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) proposed Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) operating plan for October 2021 through April 2022 is now available for public review. The draft schedule is available online with accompanying documents at cdv.tiny.us/amhs. Written comments are being accepted through July 27, 2021, via email at dot.amhs.comments@alaska.gov and by fax at (907) 228-6873.  A public teleconference to hear additional comments and consider adjustments is scheduled at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 29 for Southeast schedules and at 1:30 p.m. for Southwest and Southcentral schedules. The meetings will be held at the Alaska Marine Highway Ketchikan Central Office, 7559 North Tongass Highway, for participants wishing to attend in person. Eyak Culture Camp

The Eyak Cultural Foundation is hosting a mostly virtual iiyaaG (Eyak) Culture Camp three weekends in a row: July 23-25, July 31-August 1, and August 7-8. Ultimate frisbee

Adult ultimate frisbee is at 7 p.m. every Tuesday at the grassy field. Free and open to attend. Just show up.

Bidarki adult volleyball

Adult volleyball is back open from 6 to 8 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday at the Bidarki Rec Center. Non-member drop-ins are $5. Participants are asked to stay home if feeling ill. For more info, contact the Bidarki at 907-424-7282.

Local recycling

Fishing web, free of cork and lead line, can be dropped off in the fishing web recycling container at the Cordova City Baler. Lead acid battery recycling is located behind the NVE building on Nicholoff Way. Small batteries can be recycled at the Post Office. The City of Cordova recycles paper/cardboard, aluminum cans and glass at the lot behind AC. Join the Recycling Action Team by calling Shae Bowman at 907-424-3334 or emailing shae@copperriver.org.

Live Gospel Music

Join Belle Mickleson from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays to play live gospel music for Cordova Community Medical Center residents. Open to those who are fully vaccinated. Masks required.

Food Drive

Help Cordovans in need by donating your canned goods, non-perishable, and frozen items. The Native Village of Eyak is a food pantry for the Food Bank of Alaska at 110 Nicholoff Way. Call them at 907-424-7738 in the case of food emergencies. The Salvation Army has reopened their food bank at 514 1st St. on Main Street. Call Pastor Steve at 907-429-6262 to donate or receive food.
