The following is a summary of incidents that occurred or were reported to the Cordova Police Department July 12-18, 2021. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Monday, July 12
8:58 a.m. An Officer responded to a report of a person sleeping in an idling vehicle at Whitshed Road dog park. The Officer found the person to be fine. The individual’s boat had lost heat in the night.
3:15 p.m. An individual called Dispatch needing assistance at the Cordova Landfill. Dispatch contacted City Employee(s) who met the individual at the Landfill.
Tuesday, July 13
12:00 p.m. A caller reported a small black bear heading towards the Copper River Highway from Heney Trailer Court.
3:11 p.m. An Officer issued a warning to a motorist at Mile 3 Copper River Highway.
6:34 p.m. An Officer responded to a complaint of a vehicle swerving “in and out of his lane,” on Copper River Highway just passing Mile 2.5 at time of call.
Wednesday, July 14
8:30 a.m. Bruce Beyer, age 48, of Cordova, Alaska, reported to the station to serve 3 days for conviction of DUI.
9:14 a.m. Dispatch received a request to have orange cones set up along the Cordova Community Medical Center parking lot in preparation for the Salmon Run(s).
10:30 a.m. An Officer and a City Shop employee assisted an individual at the Impound Lot to retrieve a Go-Kart.
11:59 a.m. Dispatch received a report of a driver without a license from a concerned citizen.
3:18 p.m. An Officer distributed bear awareness door hangers in neighborhood(s).
4:46 p.m. An individual failed to stop for an Officer on a traffic stop. The Officer arrested Elton Brown, age 64, of Cordova, Alaska, for Failure to Stop and Reckless Driving.
10:25 p.m. A State Trooper reported a black bear on the boardwalk.
11:28 p.m. Dispatch received a complaint from an individual in New South Wales, Australia reporting an individual in Cordova, Alaska allegedly posting caller’s private information online and publicly accusing caller of terrorism. A report was created with New South Wales police and Cordova police.
Thursday, July 15
11:45 a.m. Jesse Jones, age 52, of Cordova, Alaska, reported to the station to serve 5 years for conviction of Criminally Negligent Homicide and DUI.
1:19 a.m. An Officer responded to a commercial fire alarm at Trident North. All Employees awaited permission to reenter the building. This was a false alarm.
5:07 a.m. Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a fisherman out on the water by Latouche Island who needed to be flown out. Dispatch contacted United States Coast Guard Sector Anchorage.
12:51 p.m. An individual came to the station to file a report of someone allegedly tampering with owner’s fuel tank.
2:10 p.m. An Officer provided safe transportation for an individual to the Mormon Church.
2:24 p.m. An Officer issued citations to an individual for no proof of insurance, driving with defective windshield, and no headlights.
4:45 p.m. An Officer reported his location to Dispatch as Mile 4 Copper River Highway “getting dead crow off the road.”
Friday, July 16
7:58 a.m. An Officer responded to a complaint of alleged drug activity.
8:37 a.m. An Officer responded to Copper River Seafoods regarding a complaint of alleged drug activity.
9:22 a.m. A second Officer with K-9 Unit responded to Copper River Seafoods.
10:36 a.m. Tyler Grefe, age 22, of Crocker, Missouri, was taken into custody on an extraditable warrant from Missouri.
10:44 a.m. A third Officer responded to Copper River Seafoods.
12:21 p.m. Dispatch received a report of an individual allegedly driving without a license.
12:46 p.m. Officers executed search warrant at Copper River Seafoods.
3:51 p.m. An Officer responded to a complaint of alleged drug activity.
4:07 p.m. An individual came to the station to speak with an Officer.
4:48 p.m. An Officer responded to a report of vandalism and trespassing of old school building on Browning Street.
4:56 p.m. An individual who left keys in vehicle came to station requesting lockout kit.
5:30 p.m. Two Officers responded to a report of an assault. Officers arrested Stanley James, age 32, of Raleigh, North Carolina, for Assault.
5:47 p.m. An Officer responded to a commercial fire alarm at Ocean Beauty. Responsible Party reported this to be a false alarm.
7:30 p.m. Dispatch received a complaint that a large white dog charged her children.
8:47 p.m. An Officer responded to a complaint of alleged drug activity.
Saturday, July 17
6:45 a.m. An Officer issued a warning to a motorist at South First Street and Bluff Trail.
8:34 a.m. Fire Truck 5 with two First Responders assisted Salmon Run.
10:38 a.m. EMS responded to a call from Cordova Community Medical Center for a medevac transport.
10:42 a.m. EMS responded to a 911 call at the Harbor. EMS transported the individual, brought in on a skiff, to Cordova Community Medical Center.
10:56 p.m. An Officer responded to an individual at the station asking to speak with an Officer.
11:16 a.m. An Officer assisted Salmon Run.
11:34 a.m. Dispatch assisted a State Trooper by running license number and entering out of state individual into Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) database.
11:49 a.m. A helpful Cordovan called Dispatch to inform that an Officer’s overhead lights were left on.
3:01 p.m. Dispatch received a call reporting all Salmon Run runners accounted for.
4:56 p.m. Dispatch received a bear complaint. Caller reported being charged by a bear on Heney Ridge. Caller stated the bear was no longer in the area.
5:56 p.m. An Officer reported his location as Chase Avenue and Center Drive in pursuit of a runaway chicken.
6:56 p.m. An Officer responded to a complaint of alleged drug activity.
7:01 p.m. An Officer issued a warning to a motorist at Power Creek and Cordova Municipal Airport.
7:49 p.m. An Officer issued a warning to a motorist at Mile 7 on Copper River Highway.
9:44 p.m. EMS responded to a 911 call of COVID-positive patient having trouble breathing.
10:56 p.m. An individual came to the station to speak with an Officer.
11:18 p.m. An Officer responded to a complaint of an intoxicated individual.
11:35 p.m. An Officer arrested Stanley James, age 32, of Raleigh, North Carolina, for Violation of Conditions of Release.
Sunday, July 18
12:00 a.m. Two Officers brought an individual into custody for Title 47.
9:26 a.m. Dispatch assisted State Trooper providing registration information on a plate number.
3:16 p.m. A complainant called Dispatch asking to speak to an Officer regarding alleged harassment and stalking.
