Law & Order: Aug. 2-15

The following is a summary of incidents that occurred or were reported to the Cordova Police Department Aug. 2-15, 2021. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Monday, Aug. 2

12:23 a.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

12:43 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

2:13 p.m. A citizen came to the station requesting to speak with an Officer. An Officer responded.

3:58 p.m. An Officer, the Fire Marshall, and EMS responded to a 911 call a City Shop employee responded to a 911 call at Ocean Beauty Seafoods.

10:09 p.m. An Officer responded to a call from Cordova Community Medical Center, providing an individual transportation from the hospital to the Prince William Motel.

Tuesday, Aug. 3

5:38 a.m. An Officer responded to a call from Copper River Seafoods for an aggravated employee.

12:13 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

12:21 p.m. Dispatch received a report of a motorist driving erratically on Main Street.

2:00 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

3:51 p.m. An Officer responded to a report of an individual “passed out” in front of a trailer. The Officer provided the individual safe transportation to residence.

5:44 p.m. An Officer responded to a report of an alleged drunk individual threatening workers on Orca Drive at Prince William Sound Science Center.

8:48 p.m. An Officer responded to a 911 call. 9:11 p.m. Officer transported individual to Cordova Community Medical Center. 10:10 p.m. Officer brought inebriated individual into custody under Title 47 after having been cleared by a doctor at Cordova Community Medical Center.

Wednesday, Aug. 4

11:35 a.m. Two Officers and K9 Officer responded to a call at Copper River Seafoods.

1:43 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

6:04 p.m. A resident notified Dispatch of a controlled burn.

6:29 p.m. An Officer responded to an anonymous report of a man drinking on First Street.

8:33 p.m. An Officer responded to a report of an individual “passed out” in complainant’s backyard. 8:46 p.m. Officer transported individual to Cordova Community Medical Center. 9:10 p.m. Officer brought inebriated individual into custody under Title 47 after having been cleared by a doctor at Cordova Community Medical Center.

11:02 p.m. Two Officers responded to a 911 call reporting an individual on the roof of the old Cordova Public School building on Browning Street. The Officers found entry into the building had been made however the building was vacant upon arrival.

11:56 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

Thursday, Aug. 5

4:42 a.m. An Alaska State Trooper notified Dispatch of drag racers speeding up and down Copper River Highway. 8:15 a.m. The drag racers were also at the Ferry Terminal doing burnouts and spilling oil.

8:23 a.m. A citizen called the station requesting to speak with an Officer regarding a bear complaint. An Officer drove to caller’s residence to conduct a home inspection. The Officer provided instructions on proper bear safety and information regarding Alaska Statutes on Defense of Life and Property.

9:12 a.m. The Fire Marshal responded to a commercial fire alarm for Trident North. Dispatch notified responsible party. This was determined to be a false alarm.

10:33 a.m. An Officer responded to call regarding drag racing activity at Ferry Terminal.

11:11 a.m. A caller reported inbound lane of Copper River Highway closed from Mile 3.5 to 4.5.

11:33 a.m. A caller reported wallet stolen by a neighbor.

12:40 p.m. An Officer responded to a report of a motorist driving erratically on Copper River

Highway.

1:00 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

1:45 p.m. An Officer and Fire Marshal responded to a report of a 2-year-old child by the gazebo in the grassy knoll by the Clinic at Cordova Community Medical Center. The child was found to be safe with parent(s).

2:17 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

4:49 p.m. An Officer met an Office of Children’s Services (OCS) staff member at a local residence.

5:52 p.m. An Officer responded to a complaint of an inebriated individual “passed out” in Spruce Grove Trailer Court.

5:56 p.m. A 911 call reported the same inebriated individual “passed out” in Spruce Grove Trailer Court. An Officer assisted the individual safely into residence.

7:52 p.m. Office of Children’s Services came to the station requesting to meet with an Officer. An Officer responded.

9:16 p.m. An Officer responded to a welfare check request. The Officer found the individual to be fine.

9:21 p.m. An Officer and local Child Advocate responded to a call at Cordova Community Medical Center.

10:35 p.m. A citizen came to the station requesting to speak with an Officer. An Officer responded.

11:06 p.m. An Officer conducted a traffic stop on First and Adams Street. 11:34 p.m. City Shop responded to the call. The driver’s vehicle was impounded.

Friday, Aug. 6

12:00 a.m. Pena Zosimo, age 32 of Cordova, Alaska, was arrested for DUI.

10:39 a.m. An Officer responded to a welfare check request. The Officer found the individual to be fine.

12:44 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

2:12 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

2:39 p.m. Dispatch received a report of a scam caller stating the U.S. Border Patrol found drugs.

3:06 p.m. An Officer responded to a welfare check request. The Officer found the individual to be fine.

3:12 p.m. An Officer assisted a distressed motorist at Mile 10 Copper River Highway.

3:35 p.m. An Officer issued a warning to a motorist at Mile 8 Copper River Highway.

3:52 p.m. An Officer responded to a report of an individual passed out near the Shoreside gas tanks. The Officer provided individual safe transportation to residence.

10:38 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

11:31 p.m. An Officer issued a warning to a motorist on Whitshed Road.

Saturday, Aug. 8

9:35 a.m. EMS, an Officer, Harbor Master, and Fire Marshall responded to a medical emergency call on the Eyak River. Patients were transported to the Cordova Community Medical Center.

11:25 a.m. An Officer responded to a report of a positive alcohol reading of a client on Electronic Monitoring. A warrant for arrest was prepared.

11:39 a.m. An Officer responded to a report of a dead sea otter sighted at the north dock.

1:28 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

2:05 p.m. An Officer and the K9 Officer performed training exercises at the Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

2:25 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

3:36 p.m. A citizen came to the station requesting a lockout kit.

5:10 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the New Harbor.

10:31 p.m. An Officer removed debris from the road at Mile 5 Whitshed Road.

10:53 p.m. An Officer responded to a report of an individual sitting on the side of the road. Officer found the individual to be an intoxicated biker having difficulty peddling. The Officer provided the individual safe transportation to residence.

Sunday, Aug. 8

1:20 a.m. An Officer responded to a welfare check request.

1:53 a.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment. A door was discovered to be unlocked. The Officer secured the door.

9:56 a.m. A caller reported an angry teenage son who dropped a cell phone in the water refusing to acknowledge it’s ruined.

10:59 a.m. EMS responded to a 911 call at Ocean Beauty. Patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.

1:22 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flights 61 and 66 at Merle K. Mudhole Smith Airport.

Monday, Aug. 9

9:30 a.m. EMS responded to a medical call.  

12:24 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

12:55 p.m. An Officer responded to a report of a motorist crossing over the yellow line multiple times.  Driver was found to be negative DUI. 

3:31 p.m. An Officer responded to a report of an individual sitting on the sidewalk of Main Street, screaming.

5:32 p.m. Dispatch received a report of a loose dog.

6:19 p.m. EMS responded to a 911 call by ACE Hardware.  The caller reported an individual crashed on a bicycle. The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center. 

8:20 p.m. EMS responded to a medevac transport call.  The patient was transported from Cordova Community Medical Center to the airport.

9:52 p.m. An Officer responded to a call from Cordova Community Medical Center requesting transportation home for a patient.  

10:37 p.m. An Officer responded to a call from a local business requesting a suspicious person be trespassed. 

Tuesday, Aug. 10

10:47 a.m. An Officer responded to a report of an individual texting threatening photos.

11:50 p.m. Two Officers conducted a welfare check. 

4:32 p.m. Two Officers transported an individual to Cordova Community Medical Center. 

Wednesday, Aug. 11

9:45 a.m. A citizen dropped off an old, heavily corroded bolt-action rifle found in the lake.  

11:20 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

5:31 p.m. An Officer brought an individual into custody under Title 47 after having been cleared by a doctor at Cordova Community Medical Center.

Thursday, Aug. 12

11:52 a.m. A citizen came to the station to be fingerprinted.

1:53 p.m. An Officer issued a citation to a motorist on Nicholoff and Railroad Avenue.  

3:25 p.m. An Officer responded to a welfare check request. 

6:40 p.m. An Officer responded to a trespass request.  6:47 p.m. The Officer asked for an ambulance.  6:49 p.m. EMS responded to the medical call.  The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.  8:50 p.m. An Officer brought inebriated individual into custody under Title 47 after having been cleared by a doctor at Cordova Community Medical Center.

10:13 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment. 

Friday, Aug. 13

11:57 a.m. A citizen came to the station to be fingerprinted.

12:51 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

1:42 p.m. An Officer and the K9 Officer performed training exercises at the Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

6:39 p.m. Dispatch received a complaint about a Biden flag containing obscenities.

9:39 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

10:22 p.m. An Officer issued a warning to a motorist on Whitshed Road. 

11:11 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

Saturday, Aug. 14

12:11 a.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

8:52 a.m. Dispatch received a commercial fire alarm for Trident Seafoods.  The responsible party reported cleaning upstairs using steam, inadvertently setting off the fire alarm. 

12:32 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 61 at Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

2:19 p.m. An Officer and the K9 Officer performed training exercises at the Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

2:42 p.m. An Officer conducted security surveillance for flight 66 at Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

3:40 p.m. Elton Brown, age 64, of Cordova, Alaska, was taken into custody on a Bench Warrant.

10:09 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

10:42 p.m. An Officer attempted Rally Obedience with 3 dogs running loose on Mile 2 Whitshed.  One dog earned Rally title and was returned to human. 

11:01 p.m. An Officer issued a warning to a motorist on Copper River Highway and Chase Avenue.

11:07 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at a local establishment.

11:52 p.m. An Officer conducted a security check at the Merle K Mudhole Smith Airport.

Sunday, Aug. 15

12:25 a.m. An Officer issued a warning to a motorist on Copper River Highway.

3:31 a.m. An Officer reported his location as Second and Browning Avenue in immediate pursuit of a runaway dog.  The dog fought the law and the dog won.  

6:28 p.m. EMS responded to a 911 call at Sunset View Apartments. The patient was transported to Cordova Community Medical Center.  

9:21 p.m. An Officer responded to a report of possible domestic issue.

9:49 p.m. EMS responded to a medevac transport call.  The patient was transported from the airport to Cordova Community Medical Center.
