Free dump day

The Eyak Corporation is hosting a free dump day from 8 a.m. to 3 pm. on Saturday, Sept. 25. All trash (other than vehicles) may be brought to Mile 17 dump. The baler on Whitshed Road will only be open for disposing hazardous wastes, refrigerators, and freezers at that time.

Project Appleseed

Project Appleseed is hosting a rifle marksmanship clinic on Oct. 9 and 10. This full immersion course caters to all skill levels, from beginner to expert. Visit https://tinyurl.com/cdvappleseed to learn more and to register. Space is limited.

Sound Alternatives will be closed Sept. 28 and will reopen Oct. 11. While closed, those seeking support should go to the Cordova Community Medical Center’s emergency room where emergency telepsychiatry is available to assist ER physicians.

Public service announcement

The public is advised to be aware of fraudulent phone calls acting as the court system telling you of missed jury duty and threat of arrest. They ask for your full name and social security number to confirm that you haven’t been notified. This is a scam, as the court system does not ask for that information over the phone.

Local recycling

Fishing web, free of cork and lead line, can be dropped off in the fishing web recycling container at the Cordova City Baler. Lead acid battery recycling is located behind the NVE building on Nicholoff Way. Small batteries can be recycled at the Post Office. The City of Cordova recycles paper/cardboard, aluminum cans and glass at the lot behind AC. Join the Recycling Action Team by calling Shae Bowman at 907-424-3334 or emailing shae@copperriver.org.

Storytime for Little Ones

The Salvation Army food pantry is located at 514 First St. Primary distribution is the third Monday of each month from 4-6 p.m. If you need food assistance or are interested in volunteering, please contact Katherine Mead at 907-429-7177. All Cordovans who want to receive the COVID-19 vaccine are asked to register at CDVCMC.com or call 907-424-3045. If registered, you will receive a call to set up an appointment as soon as you are eligible, and the vaccine is available.
